TAURANGA PORT
Inquiry Into Development (N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, April 8. A Transport Commission hearing into port development at Tauranga would be held in Rotorua from May 2 to May 6, a Transport Department official said today. He said he did not know what the terms of reference would be and he did not know if the hearing would include Auckland. The chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board (Mr R. C. F. Savory) said he welcomed the inquiry He said his board had written to the chairman of the Transport Commission, Judge K. G. Archer, last month, requesting an immediate study of Auckland’s export proposals A copy of the letter had been sent to the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) asking him to direct the commission to hold the inquiry.
Mr Savory said Mr Holyoake had also been asked to suspend any decision on Tauranga port development until the bearing had taken place.
