TOBIAS FAVOURED FOR HAWERA CUP

•‘The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. With Tobias and Misty Prince engaged, the Pukekohe trainer. J. Butcher, holds a strong hand in the I lawera 1 rotting Cup today.

The race is the first leg of the T.A.B. double on the opening day of the Hawera Trotting Club’s threeday Easter meeting. The most coveted country trotting cup in the North Island, it has drawn horses from Tangiteroria in Northland to Belfast in Canterbury. There are three South Island candidates—Epona and On Probation, from Canterbury, and Gold Boots (Nelson). Tobias scored an impressive win in the CambridK’e Gold Cup at his last start His previous form had been of a high stand ard and there is no doubt he is a highly talented three year old. The distance two miles, should not worry him because he invariably runs out his races strongly. Misty Prince is a strong second string. He is not very reliable from a standing start but he is a great stayer On Probation may be the best of the southerners. A member of C. S. Donald s team, he has been racing consistently. He won at Methven at his last appearance. Northern horses appear to dominate the second leg, the Kapurjl Handicap. Twelve are engaged and most of them have strong form credentials. The improvnig Pukekohe gelding, Part Time, is the likely favourite. There is sure to be good backing, also, for Beam Rock, Deep Acre and Johnny Dancer.
