Rover Scouts’ Moot Opens
A Dominion rover scout moot was opened by the Mayor of Kaiapoi (Mr H. O. Hills) at the Blue Skies camping and training ground at Kaiapoi yesterday. The annual moot has been held each Easter since 1935 in the North and South Islands alternatively. The camp chief (Mr W. F. Cook) welcomed the 56 rover scouts and officers who represented 12 crews from Auckland to Dunedin. Other speakers were the Dominion Commissioner for Rover Scouts (Mr L. M. Fairbrother, of Wanganui) and the district commissioner for Ashley (Mr J. McLeod). A varied programme has been arranged, including sports competitions, a harrier race, a commando course, and a trip to Mount Grey. Service projects will be carried out within the camp, and at Woodend to clear the area about the cairn which marks the site of the first scout camp held in New Zealand.
