TWO SICK PASSENGERS

Ship Speeds To Auckland (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 8. An ambulance was waiting on Captain Cook wharf at 2.20 n.m. on Thursday when the i land trader Moana Roa oerthed with two sick passengers. Mr M. J. McCauley, resident Government agent on Atiu in the Cook Islands, was rushed to Auckland Hospital where he was admitted for investigation of abdominal pains. A four-year-old boy, Frank Maeva Karati, of Rarotonga, was also taken to hospital with suspected meningitis, but was later discharged. Tonight Mr McCauley’s condition was described as satisfactory and hospital authorities said he was not expected to be there long. The ship’s physician, Dr. J. Williams, had sent an urgent telegram to Auckland late on Wednesday night requesting the ambulance. The Moana Roa arrived three hours and a half ahead of schedule.
