500 Going To Law Conference

About 500 lawyers are expected to attend the 1966 New Zealand Law Conference in Dunedin this month. The conference will open on April 13 and will last for three days. Among the overseas guests will be Lord Denning, Master of the Rolls, who will address the conference in the Dunedin Town Hall on “Recent Changes in the Law.” There will be eight delegates from Australia, led by Mr H. A. Snelling, Q.C., Soli-citor-General of New South Wales. Other guests will be Mr Edward W. Kuhn, of Chicago, who is president of the Ameri-

can Bar Society, Mr K. Smithers, of Sydney, who is vicepresident of the Law Council of Australia, Mr H. Hansard, Q.C., president of the Canadian Bar Association, Mr Andre Martin, Procureur-General of Neiv Caledonia, the AttorneyGeneral (Mr Hanan), and the former Chief Justice (Sir Harold Barrowclough). The present Chief Justice (Sir Richard Wild), two Judges of the Court of Appeal and 10 Judges of the Supreme Court will also be attending. Four papers will be delivered to the conference. These will be “The Public Image of the Law.” by Mr P. T. Mahon, of Christchurch, “Unity, Disunity and Harmony in the Common Law,” by Sir Victor Windeyer, Judge of the High Court Australia, “Reforms and Developments in the Law of Damages.’* by Mr D. W. McMullin, a Hamilton barrister: and “The Reform of Procedure,” by Dr. G. P. Barton, senior lecturer in law, Victoria University. The conference chairman will be Mr E. D. Blundell, of Wellington, who is president of the New Zealand Law Society.
