A water skier and the driver of a boat which towed him were each fined £l2 10s in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamil ton. yesterday for failing tc have another person in the boat to warn the driver of anj mishap occurring to the skier Brian Simpson, aged 31 motor dealer, and Warrer Young, aged 20, motoi mechanic, both of Hamilton admitted charges arising from their actions on the Waikatc river at Hamilton on Febru ary 5. Simpson was charged with ski-ing behind a motor launch when the person in charge oi the launch was not accompan ied by at least one othei person responsible for com municating to the person in

Young was charged with, being the person in charge, n he failed to have such an n assistant. 1- Both charges were laid uno der the Motor Launch Regulae tions, 1962. y Prosecuting for the Auckr. land Acclimatisation Society, L, Mr P. J. Smith said the inti formant, Mr Henry Atkinson, ir a society ranger, had seen i, the offence. Simpson’s offence n carried a maximum penalty of o £lOO. i- Simpson told the Court he had been ski-ing for some hl time and was unaware of the h j requirement. if Mr Stewart Hardy, S.M., i-1 said: “If you undertake these r! activities it is your duty to i- know the regulations concernning them.”
