Christchurch Customs

The total customs revenue collected in Christchurch in the year to March 31 was £11,644,154—9.3 per cent more than the £10,649,803 raised the year before. Customs and excise rose to £8,172,984 from £7,119.673, but tyre duty fell from £5014 to £4698. and miscellaneous revenue was £54,437 against £112,313. Sales tax at £3,394,241. against £3,394.819, and light dues at £17,794, against £17.984, showed little change. During March £799,412 was collected for customs and excise (against £620.388 in March last year), nil (£206) for tyre duty, £435.863 (£388,556) for sales tax, £1875 (£2221) for light dues and £2524 (£12,135) for miscellaneous revenue. Wellington Revenue collected by the Customs Department in Wellington during March totalled £1,020,067, compared witli £1,108,889 in March last year. Details are: Sales tax, £1,914,647 (£2,437,706 last vear): motor spirit tax £2,576.393 (£2,678,120): tyre duty £2 (£314): other, £176,682 (£163,103). Tui Brewery.— Directors of Tui Brewery. Mangatainoka, recommend payment of an interim dividend of 3 per cent ordinary payable May 27 ex dividend May 13. Last year total dividend was 7 per cent after 3 per cent 'interim.—(P.A.)
