HE STRUCK OIL WITH PICK AND SHOVEL.—Mr Al Smith, of Newcastle, Wyoming, leaning out of the hole he dug with pick and shovel. Although this appears to be a fairly primitive operation, Mr Smith says it is a producing oil well. With his digging and some dynamite, he found oil at a depth of 21 feet. The oil is being piped into a storage reservoir for marketing later.
