Professional Theatre
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 4. A professional theatre will be set up in Auckland with temporary headquarters in the Choral Hall, Airedale street. Several professional actors in the audience of 250 at a meeting last night urged that an eminent overseas director be appointed. The chairman, Dr. J. C. Reid, said Hamilton had shamed Auckland by building a theatre and appointing a full-time drama producer. Six members were appointed to a board to make preliminary arrangements and to draft a policy. It will report back to a public meeting in six months.
The cost of equipping the Choral Hall was estimated at £BOOO.
