MISSION TO U.S.

Keynes Party Officer

A report on his mission to the United States has been sent to New Zealand by the vice-president of the New Zealand Keynesian Progress Party <Mr J. R. Perkins) the policy co-ordinator of the party (Mr M. D. Sadler) says in a statement.

The main aim of Mr Perkins’s mission, the statement says, is to gain attention for proposals which may make a more strictly defensive military strategy in Vietnam practicable. It is felt that such a strategy would reduce casualties and decrease the tensions which prevent negotiation of a settlement. In his report Mr Perkins said there had been much publicity on his visit, but although he always gave reporters a copy of the party’s Vietnam policy statement and emphasised the idea of “compartmenting” southern South Vietnam, the idea always seemed to be missing from what was printed. He still hoped the publicity would help him to see James Reston and the military expert of the “New York Times.” H. W. Baldwin. Several American newspapers have printed interviews with Mr Perkins, the statement says.
