RACING Misjudge Impresses In Riccarton Trial

Misjudge's best race form would give him only an outside chance in the George Adams Handicap at Riccarton next Monday. But there was much to admire in his nine-furlong trial 35ft out on the course proper yesterday.

In the hands of his race rider, A. H. Eastwood, Misjudge ran nine furlongs in 2.0 1-5 and the last half-mile with dash in 50 4-5.

White Rajah (D. Tucker) joined in for lhe last half-mile, and stayed alongside Misjudge to the end.

Misjudge has earned some consideration for the £3600 feature race on the first day jof the Canterbury Jockey (Club’s autumn carnival with two placed runs recently.

I The latest of them was a creditable third over a mile ;an<l a quarter at Rangiora last "week. He was forced wide when at the height of a strong Tun from the back.

. Trialists had easy footing on the course proper yesterday, and there were few fast sprints. Most of the Riccarton--1 rained candidates for major races at the C.J.C. meeting were given easy tasks. Pharasal, a fancied lightweight in the Great Easter Handicap, took 54 2-ssec for

his half-mile, but A. J. Stokes did not have him at anything like full stretch for the first furlong or so. Sabell, another Great Easter light-weight, was paired with Somara over half a mile, and they recorded 51 4-ssec. ; Consistent Sabell has been runner-up i in his last four races, the latest behind Shakes at Ash- , burton. He is hardy and con- • sistent, and should not be one i of the lesser lights amongst [the top sprinters at the C.J.C. > meeting. [ Agrippa (D. N. Hadfield) and Coseta <B. Stechmann)

ran in from the half-mile on ! terms in 52sec. Agrippa should run out six ifurlongs better than most of the other s in the Champagne ' Stakes.

| Fair Gap (A. Swanson), an- | other Champagne Stakes can- | didate, took 53 2-ssec for her ;half-mile. She was impressive : in coming from last for her I win in a division of the race !for two-year-olds at Ashburton. Roman General (A. H. Eastwood) recorded 52 l-ssec for ! hi s half-mile. He failed to (measure up in strong class at

Trentham, but could be one of the improvers in the Cham-’ pagne Stakes field. Together (R Moir) was paired with Allegretto (E. G. Low) for half a mile, run in 53 l-ssec. Together was just touched off by Fair Gap at Ashburton where she was having her second start. She is one of four fillies in the Champagne ’Stakes. Speed In Reserve Seminole (B. Edens) and Kalimera (D. N. Hadfield), which will represent G. S. Barr’s Riccarton stable in the Warstep Stakes, could have improved on their 53 2-ssec for half a mile. Seminole outclassed the other hacks over a mile and a quarter at Rangiora last Friday, and may be the one most likely to test the Wingatui filly, Bellition.

Port Bank led Gold Find by a length ending seven furlongs in Imin 33 2-ssec, the last half-mile in 53 4-ssec. Port Bank is another Warstep Stakes candidate with a background of fair form. Gingerbread (W. H. Beck) dashed in from the three furlongs in 36 4-ssec. Gingerbread is a double acceptor and her programme had not been settled yesterday. Beck will ride her if she starts in the Warstep Stakes. On the plough, Joyean (Mrs V. Clutterbuck) sprinted six furlongs in Imin 18 2-ssec, the last half-mile in 52 l-ssec and the final three furlongs in 39 4-ssec. Taylor On Rag Doll The North Island jockey, R. W. Taylor, will come south to ride Bandon- and Rag Doll at Riccarton next Monday. On Saturday he will be at Ellerslie to ride Misere, Prince d’Amour and Tahiti. J. R. Dowling will ride Flying Saucer in the Opawa Handicap, the first leg of the oncourse double at Riccarton on Monday. His other mounts are Now or Never, Monade, Conde, Loewe, Red Siren, Scram and Bellarook. C. T. Wilson will ride Next Please in the Champagne Stakes.
