Soccer Six-A-Side Cancelled
Because of lack of interest by clubs, the six-a-side soccer tournament on Easter Monday has been cancelled.
It was reported to the Canterbury Football Association management committee last evening that only seven clubs had entered teams—ShirleyNomads, Hornby, Technical Old Boys, Christchurch City, Western, New Brighton and Rangers.
The resignation of Mr R. J. Palmer from the management committee was received with regret. Mr Palmer, a master at Christchurch Boys’ High School, has been appointed to a new teaching post. He was elected to the management committee last year, and, on the resignation of Mr T. C. Gottermeyer, became convener of the match committee. He will be succeeded in this position by Mr R. Storer.
T. Conley (New Brighton) and A. W. Gowans (Christchurch City) were appointed captain and vice-captain, respectively, of the Canterbury senior team at Nelson on Monday. The selector, Mr V. R. Smith, was appointed manager.
The Rangers club has offered its ground at McGregors road, where floodlighting has been installed, for Sunday or night games. The club suggested the profits could be divided equally between the club and the C.F.A. The draw for the first qualifying round of the Chat ham Cup, on April 30. is:—
Northern Hearts (Timaru) v. Western; New Brighton v. Shirley-Nomads; Wanderers v. Technical Old Boys; H.S.0.8. v. Shamrock; Rangers v Christchurch City; Universitj iv. Watersiders.
