Beer-Drinking Feat
A young man walked into a hotel bar in Christchurch on Monday afternoon and drank 60oz of beer in 14.8 seconds. Afterwards he said he felt “as good as gold.” “That fellow must have a gullet like a kitchen sink,” commented one admirer. The. young man, David Bradley, said he read in “The Press” last Wednesday that the Kawerau Recreation Centre Appeal Committee was offering £lOO to anyone who could drink a yard-long glass of beer in less than 16 i seconds—believed to be the world record. “As I already hold the record at the Russley Hotel by downing a yard-glassful in 22 seconds I though it might be worthwhile giving it a go,” said Mr Bradley. The yard-long glass is the property of the hotel manager. Mr Bradley’s attempt was timed by one official and several unofficial timekeepers.
How many gulps did it take to down the 60oz? “I don’t really gulp. I just pour it down,” he said. Mr Bradley, a 24-year-old insurance agent who lives in Papanui, said he drank only on Friday and Saturday afternoons.
