Race Dead-Heats

Sir.—May I congratulate the i judge at the New Zealand 'Metropolitan meeting last Saturday on his quick decisions on two dead-heats. To me they meant nothing financially, -but a lot in realism. The previous week I had heard a Southland judge call for three if not four photographs. which the announcer said he was examining through a magnifying glass. He at last gave the decision

to one horse. I believe that if it was necessary for all those prints to get a hairline decision, it was good enough for a dead-heat, as it certainly could not have been a nose, as printed in the press. In results as close as this it is pretty tough luck for the losing owner and the win and double betters. The Aga Khan had the right idea; and I feel if some direction was given along these lines the public would be all behind it. — Your, etc., COMMON SENSE. April 3. 1966.
