MERGER OF COUNTIES
Discussion In Committee
Proposals for the amalgamation of Malvern and Tawera counties and a report from the National Roads Board on the roading needs of the two counties were discussed in committee by the Malvern County Council at its monthly meeting yesterday. Taken in committee were reports of a special meeting of the council and of a joint meeting with Tawera on March 29. No report was made on resuming open meeting. Stray Dogs.—On the recommendation of the Malvern Hydatid Control Committee, the council agreed to adopt a by-law to enable stray dogs to be impounded. Hydatids.—Three cases of true and 16 of false hydatids had been found in 238 samples, reported the inspector (Mr D. Priest). Irrigation.—Crs. H. H. Deans, M. R. Voice and A. D. Worsfold were appointed to continue discussions with Paparua and Ellesmere counties on irrigation proposals. Staff.—Mr W. G. Lloyd was appointed assistant clerk from 23 applicants. He is at present accountant for the Bruce County Council, and will start at Darfield in mid-May. Town • Planning.—lt was agreed to ask a firm of consultants to report on costs and other matters involved in preparing a planning scheme for the county.
Glenroy Hall.—The council recently took over the Glenroy Hall, and it was reported that Miss E. Richards (chairman), Messrs C. E. Hunt (deputy), F. Harris, C. Dennis and G. Dennis had been elected the management committee.
