Epsom Entrant Wins In France
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter) PARIS. Epsom Derby entries took the first two places in the Prix Juigne, when the Longchamps flat racing season opened in Paris yesterday. Winner of the event for unraced three-year-olds was Baron Guy De Rothschild’s Premier Violon, ridden by J. Deforge. Premier Violon won by a length from the favourite. Francois Dupre’s Yanpez. Another important race on the card was the Prix Greffulhe, won by the favourite, Hauban. Sea Bird 11, last year s Epsom Derby winner, made his three-year-old debut in this event a year ago, but Hauban, owned by Mrs Jean Stern, is not entered for any English classics. Hauban won by a head in a photo-finish with Behistoun, with Orvilliers four lengths behind third.
