Koral Impresses In Riverton Trial

“The Press” Special Service

INVERCARGILL. The Great Western Steeplechase favourite, Koral, had his first taste of the Riverton country yesterday morning. In a schooling bout over nine fences, Koral accomplished his task in good style. Others to school weld were the hack steeplechasers, Bush Creek and Kurdle. After heavy rain during the last week, the Riverton course was cutting out, but provided surprisingly good going. Koral, which is top-weight in the Western with 11-2, was paired with Bush Creek and

Flisk, which had much the worst of the weights. Koral and Bush Creek, which had a light-weight up, made the running and kept together throughout. The two pacemakers set a solid pace. Bush Creek matching his more experienced companion fence for fence. Koral jumped with his noted efficiency. He will be expected to uphold the record of the Hazlett colours in the Western. Kurdle and Helena Maid were paired over nine fences, keeping together throughout and finishing on terms. Kurdle, which looks greatly improved, outjumped Helena Maid at several fences. It was a sound display. Mr W. E. Hazlett said yesterday he would not race any members of his team at the Riccarton meeting at Easter. He had Eiffel Tower and SingaUer entered on later days.
