Flag Returned To Irelaml (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Coppriphfl LONDON. April 3. Last week Britain handed back to Ireland a cherished relic of its fight for independence—a faded green flag half . a century old. The flag, bearing the words . “Irish Republic,” fluttered from the roof of Dublin’s General Post Office during \ the bloody Easter week rebellion of 1916, the forerunner 1 to the fighting which finally led to Irish independence ■ from Britain. It was captured by British troops when they stormed the rebel headquarters in the post office building. Until now it has lain in London’s Imperial War Museum.
