ECUADOR’S JUNTA
New Govt. Plans Trial (N.Z.P.A.’Reuter—Copyright) QUITO (Ecuador), April 4. Ecuador’s three-man former military junta will be brought to trial for crimes committed while in office. The junta—Admiral Ramon Castro Jijonand, General Luis Cabrera and General Marcos Gandara—resigned and fled five days ago in the face of violent political and economic agitation. Their whereabouts have not been revealed but they are believed to be prisoners at an Army camp near Quito. The new Government led by provisional President Clemente Yerovi Indaburu has stripped them of their military rank and honours. The junta assumed power and suspended constitutional rule in 1963.
