MERGER URGED
Volunteer Groups There was a feeling among young men and women in many countries that the time was ripe for merging peace corps and other volunteer youth services into an international youth service corps, said Miss Patricia Morrison yesterday 7. She was speaking at the second inter-church school for women sponsored by the women’s committee of the National Council of Churches. Many young people with training and the desire to help others less fortunate felt that there should be an international service rather than individual services such as the American Peace Corps, the New Zealand Volunteer Service Abroad, and the British service said Miss Morrison. Miss Morrison described the poor conditions in Fiji and Papua and New Guinea and the help needed. Education was compulsory in Fiji but it was not uncommon for a child to receive none because his parents could not afford the fees. In Papua and New Guinea only a certain number could be educated. This led to the creation of an elite class, Miss Morrison said.
