Pheroz Pride Impresses In Awapuni Gallop

Pheroz Pride shaded Sobig, which was a little disappointing. Terrific pleased In his trial over half a mile, making perhaps a bigger impression than Sobig did. Others to please included Serena, Star Belle and Felix Dee. On the course proper, which was hard and fast, Pheroz Pride appeared to have Sobig covered at the end of a brilliant six furlongs in Imin 15sec, the last three in 38se?. Felix Dee ran freely In preparation for the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes. He ran five furlongs in Imin 6sec, the last three in 38sec. He pleased his trainer, B. Naden, who expects him to run well in the Awapuni event. R. A. Jenkins rode Golden Defoe over an easy mile, the last six furlongs in Imin 26sec and the final three in 41 2-ssec. He has not looked back this week and a good race in the Gold Cup should be forthcoming. Terrific ran from the mile easily for a start and then accelerating over the last four in 51sec, the last three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. Terrific was imEressive and looks hard to beat 1 the Awapuni Gold Cup. Brilliant Effort A brilliant effort over five furlongs high-lighted the little work performed on the inside trial. Lady Mataara ran the distance in Imin 0* 3-ssec, the last three in 36 3-ssec.

On the plough Dervish just led Serena over five furlongs in Imin 3sec, the last three in 39sec. Dervish Impressed and will race at Waipukurau. Serena also did wel and appeals for the Woodhey Hack Handicap, in spite of a wide draw.

Star Belle was given a light task over six furlongs which took her Imin 25sec, the last three in 41sec. She moved a little short early, but stretched out better later. She might benefit from some rain.
