TROTTING Stewart Hanover May Win Methven Stakes

Stewart Hanover is expected to have improved sufficiently as a result of his recent racing to win the Two-year-old Stakes, one of the feature races at the Meth ven Trotting Club’s autumn meeting tomorrow. A gelding by Garrison Hanover from Lauder Hall, Stewart Hanover ran on strongly for third behind Pro Consul and Montage at Rangiora last week.

Stewart Hanover will race over an extra two furlongs this week, but after his fourth in the Timaru Nursery Stakes there is little reason to doubt his stamina. He will be bracketed with Atlas, a fair seventh at Rangiora. Authentic showed speed to finish fourth at Rangiora. He lost much ground at the start, but improved to be handy at the half-mile. It was only in the last few yards that he tired. He will be bracketed with Pro Consul, the backmarker on 24 yards. Pro Consul has won at his last two starts and in spite of his handicap, could be prominent again. Adios King, a place-getter in his two starts in December, is another smart pacer with a favourable barrier draw. Adios King is close to his best and could race prominently. Alandria, a good fourth in Really Good’s recent recordbreaking mile race, showed speed after a slow start at Tuesday’s trials at Addington Raceway. She could easily upset calculations. Lilly Anne, Local Frost, Mokoreta, Renata, and Really Good are others expected to show to advantage. The T.A.B. double will be run on the J. McCloy Memorial and the Springburn Handicaps. There will be a double for course patrons run on the Lyndhurst and First Spaxton Handicaps. Fine weather is forecast and the track will be fast. ON-COURSE DOUBLE
