Tekau Closing City Plant
Plans to close the Christchurch plant of Tekau Knitwear were announced yesterday by the managing-director (Mr G. A. Hansen). The organisation’s new £90,000 Timaru factory can now absorb the Christchurch operations, and consolidation in one plant would lead to economies from lower overheads, he said. The Tuam street plant, which has been making up knitted outerwear since 1958, will close on May 19. Most of the staff of about 34 have already found alternative employment.
