SWIMMER’S ATTEMPT
Missed Record Ry 2.5 Sec. (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Watched by a handful of officials and swimmers, Miss V. I. Haddon (Onehunga), came within 2.ssec of the world 110 yd breaststroke record in a solo swim at the Newmarket Olympic pool last evening. The world record of Imin 19.2 sec is held jointly by Miss K. Beyer (East Germany) and Miss D. Harris (Britain). In a special record attempt Miss Haddon’s time of Imin 21.7 sec was o.6sec inside her Auckland record established earlier this month, but O.lsec outside her New Zealand record made three years ago just after the Perth Empire Games.
