In a magnificent display of bowling, Mrs M. Gardner, of Wellington, beat Mrs R. Ryan of Waikato, 20-10, in the final of the New Zealand Women's singles championships at Masterton yesterday.
Mrs Ryan was 5 up after fours ends and it was not until the fifth that Mrs Gardner gained her first point Mrs Ryan held on to a one-point lead until the sixteenth when Mrs Gardner, with some perfect positional play, scored a three, to lead 12-10. From that point Mrs Gardner was in control, adding seven points over the next four ends.
