EXPELLED BY RHODESIA
Daughter Of Historian (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) JOHANNESBURG, March 24. Miss Polly Toynbee was held last night at Jan Smuts Airport, Johannesburg, when she arrived from Salisbury after being ordered to leave Rhodesia. Miss Toynbee, aged 19, is an Amnesty International worker and granddaughter of the British historian, Professor Arnold Toynbee. She would stay at the airport overnight and fly to Britain today they said. Before she left Miss Toynbee said she bad been told by the Rhodesian police special branch that she could remain if she was prepared to become a police informer. She arrived in Rhodesia on February 23 for a three-month visit and has been doing welfare work for the wives and children of detained or restricted Africans.
