Massed battalions of South Korean armoured and infantry units reported killing 214 Viet Cong guerrillas yesterday in a series of sharp clashes 270 miles north-east of Saigon. # * # SAIGON, March 24. Thousands of students yesterday seized radio stations in the Buddhist-dominated northern cities of Hue and Da Nang and poured out broadcasts against the ruling military junta and United States policy in Vietnam. Premier Nguyen Cao Ky, faced with the Buddhist and student unrest, said that national elections to replace his military Government might take place earlier than expected, the “New York Times” news service reported. « « « SYDNEY, March 24. The Australian Government had a right to conscript youth for military service when national security was at stake, the director of the Catholic Information Bureau, Dr. W. E. Murray, said yesterday. He was commenting on an editorial in the Melbourne Roman Catholic newspaper, the “Advocate,” which attacked the conscription of youth to fight in Vietnam. He said he felt the views expressed in the editorial did not represent Roman Catholic leaders’ thinking. St * # HONG KONG, March 24. North Vietnam has protested against the dispatch of additional Australian and South Korean troops to South Vietnam, the North Vietnam News Agency reported today. ♦ * » CANBERRA, March 24. There was ample evidence to clearly indicate that the Viet Cong in South Vietnam were being consistently supplied with arms and equipment from Communist sources, including Soviet Russia and China, the Prime Minister, Mr Harold Holt, told the House of Representatives today.
