Obituary
MR J. S. ADAMS Mr J. S. Adams, who died in Christchurch recently at the age of 84, was prominent in local body, church, and community work in North Otago for many years. A farmer at Otekaike and several other parts of Otago until about 12 years ago, Mr Adams was a member of the Waitaki County Council for 15 years and chairman for about four years.
He served on the Otago Land Board for a number of years, and was a member of the Waitaki Hospital Board and the board of governors of the Waitaki Boys’ High School.
A life-long member of the Presbyterian Church, Mr Adams was a home missionary in several parts of Otago, and an elder of the Duntroon parish, and since his retirement, to Christchurch , an elder of St. Columba Church, Richmond.
He took a keen interest in the Labour Party, and at one general election stood for the old Waimate seat.
A cricketer in his early days, Mr Adams turned to bowls in retirement and played in Waimate and in Christchurch, where he was one of the earliest members of the Burwood Club.
He is survived by his wife and a daughter.
