Grant Makes Bushcraft Training Possible
Bushcraft training for youth group leaders will be available this month throughout New Zealand under a £3OOO , lottery grant, says the Federated Mountain Clubs’ bulletin. The training is part of a , three-point campaign to rel duce mountain accidents in New Zealand. First is increased publicity; second, instruc- : tion in bush and mountain i skills; and, third, the setting up of a library of films, slides and manuals on all aspects of , bush and mountain safety. The campaign was launched • last December by the Minister , of Internal Affairs, and ’ already much had been achieved, said the bulletin, Enthusiastic support had been , received, the idea accepted,
i and the task was now up to . the federation through its t afiilated clubs, it said. “The aim of the campaign 3 will be to encourage youth ■ organisations to participate safely in mountain-country rei creation and to reduce the in- , cidence of mountain accidents i by training education and . publicity. In the main, the . campaign will be directed ! beyond mountain clubs to j leaders or potential leaders of i youth organisations. f Bushcraft training is to be given this month in the j four main regions of New r Zealand, and would be foli lowed by further training at j Easter for youth club and organisation leaders. This j training would be followed in successive years by training in snow and mountaincraft, ■ firearms and stalking, ski-ing and ski mountaineering rock climbing and mountain craft, and search and rescue.
