PUPILS’ CAMP ENDS
Only French Spoken The “Little France” French ■ camp held at the Woodend ■ youth camp ended on Sunday. ’ For three days 57 sixth-form ' French pupils and their teach--1 ers spoke nothing but French. The pro-gramme included lectures, discussions, singing, quizzes and competitions, study periods, and films lent by the French Embassy in Wellington. All the teachers and camp staff have spent some time in a French-speaking country. The camp was organised by the Canterbury Language Teachers’ Association. Visiting speakers included Miss N. Anderson, Mrs T. Marsh, Mr J. Chaussivert, and George and David Troup who have recently returned from France. Mr D. S. Walker, one of the camp committee, said it was unlikely that another French camp could be held this year but tentative plans for a German camp were being studied. The New Zealand University Students’ Association will publish the first issue of a new national student newspaper on April 1. The paper, “New Zealand Student News” will have a circulation of 25,000 and be distributed free in universities. Edited by Mr W. Alexander, a Wellington journalist and part-time student, it will publish in March, May, August and October.
