AUSTRALIAN WHEAT

Production Drops fN.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) CANBERRA, March 16. Australian wheat production in 1965-1966 was expected to total 250 million bushels compared with the previous year’s record of 369 million bushels, the Bureau of Agricultural Economics reported today. The decline is a reflection of the Australian drought, which has reduced the acreage sown to wheat from 17.9 million acres last year to 16.7 million acres this year. The “Australian Fnancial Review’’ says exports from Australia for the year should fall to about 210 million bushels compared with 236 million bushels during the previous year. The major part of this fall would be reflected in reduced shipments to China and to Russia. The availability of Australian wheat for exports in 1966-67 depends greatly on what rain falls later this year.
