At its meeting on Wednesday evening the chamber s joint importers’ and transport committees suggested such a body could take in the City Council area, Riccarton borough, part of Lyttelton borough, the counties of Waimairi and Heathcote and part of Paparua county, and that it could co-ordinate various aspects of local government “The Waimairi county coun. dl is a live, independent org. anisatiom. well able to stand on its own feet,” said Mr Mit. chell. “In the light of estimated population increases in the next few years, I feel that one organisation as suggested would become too unwieldlr and would not work satisfy, torily.” Mr Mitchell said he strongly favoured the appointment j representatives from the coin cils to ad hoc bodies, suet as the drainage and transput boards, and other metropoh tan authorities.
