DROUGHT IN N.S.W.
Comment Bv •f Bishop (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Feb. 28. Tens of thousands of sheep are roaming the stock-routes of New South Wales in search of food, in the severe drought. In Bathurst, the Roman Catholic Bishop, the Most Rev. A. R. E. Thomas, said the drought was a punishment of God on people for over-attachment to material things and seeking after pleasure. “Even now, in spite of the hardship, many still strive to preserve their pleasure," he said. ‘This proves that we love pleasure so much that even hardship cannot make us give it up—or many are not as badly off as they pretend." Bishop Thomas called for an act of reparation by Catholics in the form of sacrificial donations to a new diocesan girls’ high school at Bathurst.
