LEGALISING ABORTIONS
Commons Bill Set-back
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 27.
Moves to end back-street abortions in Britain received a set-back in the House of Commons last Friday. Opponents of a private Bill seeking to widen grounds for legal abortion virtually killed it by refusing to allow a vote before the debate automatically came to an end. The Bill goes to the end of a long list of private Bills awaiting debate. The Bill, sponsored by a Conservative member, would legalise abortion where it would save the monther’s life, or prevent the risk of serious injury to her physical or mental health, or where the child, if bom. might suffer from abnormalities likely to deprive it of reasonable enjoyment of life.
