Top Copy Surprise Second Leg Winner

Top Copy, well beaten over a mile and a quarter when strongly supported on Saturday, caused a minor surprise when he won the McDonald Handicap, second leg of the T.A.B. double at Hutt Park last night.

The double dividend was £25 ss.

Saturday with a runaway win in the Bunny Handicap. She was always prominent and was left in front when Main Reason broke on the home turn. Quality Inn led a vain chase after the winner and went under by four lengths. Hal Special, the early leader, was well beaten in third place, just ahead of Bright Enterprise, Court Lad and Jubilee. Led Throughout The Mangere-trained Cover On, a weak sixth on the first night, led throughout the Steven Handicap, fighting off several determined challenges over the last furlong, to win decisively by a length from Marshella, which drifted badly and lost 48 yards at the start. Free Return, after being handily placed all the way, was half a neck away third, a head in front of Scotleigh, which came home strongly along the rails and looked unlucky. Seven Nights, after breaking at the start, galloped across the line in fifth place, close up, with Fair Song and Snow Globe next. Snow Globe was in second place on the outside for most of the way but stopped badly in the run home. Trapper and Irish Earl broke at the straight entrance when fairly handy.

Top Copy was always in the first three and received a beautiful run behind Light Silk and Lord Worsley. He moved up to challenge early in the run home and wore down Wee Herb to beat him by a short length. Wee Herb was with Top Copy most of the way, took a short lead at the furlong and finished a length in front of Stanorma, which was about three lengths from the leaders all the way. Star Globe, one of the slowest beginners and last at the half mile, came fast for a close fourth, clear of Light Silk. Bay Prince and Scotty McCoy. Epona, Scottish Advance became entangled with breaking horses at the start and they were pulled up. Viewin fell after a furlong and Tongariro lost his driver.
