The 19 boats in the fleet landed 15.649 sacks of oysters, compared with ”173 sacks in February last year. and 11,222 sacks in February. 1960, the record year. The fleet was on restricted catches most days since the season opened on February 15. Reasons for this were a shortage of openers at the beginning of the season, and a low demand probably caused by the fine weatht*. The boats returned a daily average catch of 1321 sacks, or 70 sacks a boat each day. compared with the daily' average of 1195 sacks, or 63 sacks a boat on the six days they were able to leave port in February last year. The number of boats in the fleet this year is the same as last.
