Clubs Have Combined
One of Christchurch’s oldest Rugby clubs, Merivale, lost its separate identity after 83 seasons when it recently combined with the Papanui Club to form the new club. Merivale-Papanui. Although Merivale had a proud record in senior Rugby, its form in recent years had been disappointing and efforts to stage a revival met with little success.
Papanui, too, has not been particularly successful in recent years, and the decision to combine will strengthen Rugby in the northern area of Christchurch.
The club's headquarters will be at St. James’s Park and it expects to field teams in all of the grades.
