Five Soccer Coaches Named
rhe national soccer coach, Mr L. Brocic, has appointed five part-time coaches to train junior players in Canterbury under the long-term policy to bring New Zealand soccer to Olympic Games standard.
They are J. Adam, J. Hinchley (both of Rangers), J. Cullen (High School Old Boys), A. Hawthorn (Shirley-Nomads) and E. Brownlee (Western). Hinchley will be In charge of coaching at schools; Cullen (under-12), Adam (under--14), and Hawthorn (under16)’will look after the junior representative teams: and Brownlee will take , the new groups of under-12 players entering the coaching centre. All five will work under the provincial coach, Mr R. C. Carter, and the three named to coach the representative teams will co-oper-ate with the team managers chosen by the junior management committee of the Canterbury Football Association. Mr Carter will continue to coach the provincial senior teams—under-18, under-20 and the A and B sides. The five part-time coaches will work under the Rothman’s sponsored national coaching scheme. It is hoped
that they will be available to coach for four hours a week throughout the year. Adam, Hinchley, Hawthorn and Cullen have represented Canterbury on various occasions, Hawthorn being the present Canterbury left-back. Hinchley is holder of a New Zealand coaching badge. '‘With six of us now working at all levels of soccer. 1 am sure we will see the fruits of this scheme blossoming in the next five or six years,” said Mr Carter. Support Welcomed “Tire junior management committee, through its chairman, Mr G. Roberts, has warmly welcomed the help these coaches will be able to give the Canterbury junior teams.” The coaches began work at the Olympic soccer centre at Cowles Stadium this week, and it is hoped to make arrangements for a coach to attend the schools when these are ready for soccer tuition.
