MOST NOT ELIGIBLE
Athletes In Arrears
WI. Press Association'
WELLINGTON
Most of New Zealand's athletes are not affiliated or registered and are therefore theoretically ineligible to compete in the national championships at Christchurch on Friday and Saturday. This was disclosed at a meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association last evening. The treasurer, R. G. W. Jackman, said that only the Wellington and Northland associations have paid their affiliation and registration fees.
It was decided to send telegrams to the defaulting associations drawing their attention to the rule concerning eligibility. The mile time of 3min 53.8 sec run by Jurgen May (East Germany) at Wanganui last December was ratified as a New Zealand record. Other records ratified were L .R. Mills, discus, 185 ft 3in K. Keino (Kenya), 1500 metres, 3min 37.65ec (equab record); M. J. Speden, decathlon, 6894 points.
