Warning To Debtors
When the manager of a firm which handles the financial affairs of persons who get into debt said in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday that he was appearing on behalf of a woman who had been summoned to appear in Court to be examined as to her means in connexion with a judgment summons, Mr K. H. J. Headifen. S.M., said he was not prepared to accept the appearance of any agents on behalf of the defendant. The order was that the debtor should appear in Court unless she was prevented by ill-health, and if that was the reason for her non-appearance then he expected a medical certificate to be presented, the Magistrate said.
If a debtor, who was summoned to be present in Court to be examined as to means, failed to appear and gave no reasonable excuse then he was prepared to exercise his powers of commital under the Magistrate’s Court rules as he regarded it as contempt of Court, said the Magistrate.
