Drainage Board Property

Sir, The Christchurch Drainage Board has successfully cultivated acres of various weeds and’ grasses in the areas to the west of the sewage treatment ponds at Bromley. Many of the weeds are now at the seeding stage and ratepayers in the surrounding districts can be assured of fine noxious crops next season. This is hardly a fair return for the board’s huge share of city rates.— SUPERSEED. Yours, etc., February 16. 1966. [The chairman of the Drainage Board <Mr F. R. Price) replies:—“The correspondent’s complaint regarding noxious weeds will be investigated. The officer in charge of the treatment works does take steps to see that noxious weeds are kept under control. Eventually it is hoped to improve the appearance of the area. Experimental plots for different crops are to be laid down in part of this area to assist the board in its recently announced proposals to acquire further land for farming purposes.”]
