Boys’ Brigade Special Project Most Popular

The 17th Christchurch company of the Boys’ Brigade announced at the annual meeting of the Canterbury battalion on Monday evening plans for a special educational programme it is to undertake this year. The first project will be to find out what a soldier’s life is like. About 150 boys from several companies are to spend the day at Burnham Military Camp early in April, when they will see how to organise and site a camp, be shown hygiene and medical care, safety with firearms, army cooking, a rescue from a wrecked or burning vehicle, and inspect the medical museum. The company captain, Mrj F. Powell, said this visit had i been arranged for only one i company, but the news spread and now several were interested. General brigade activities will include athletics tests, a swimming carnival, crosscountry, physical training and drill competitions, football tournament and a church parade. Events organised on an area basis for the Life Boys are a film evening, figure marching competition, seven-a-side Rugby and six-a-side Soccer competitions, a challenge from the Otago area for the I Stedfast Rugby Shield and a i Quarterdeck service.
