LIMITS OF TAXING
Town Clerks’ Conference (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 28. Just as the central Government had reached the limit of direct taxation, local bodies were reaching the limits of rating, the president of the New Zealand Municipal Association and Mayor of Rotorua, Mr A. M. Linton, told the Institute of Town Clerks’ conference today. "We must get revenue by indirect means,” he said. “One simple solution would be the raiding of the National Roads Board fund—not that I’d like to see that happen.”
