Hotel 65 Years Old Yesterday

Wasner’s Hotel building, which replaced an earlier wooden structure destroyed by fine in 1900, was 65 years old yesterday. William Francis Warner laid the foundation stone on February 28, 1901, and the building, of brick and stone was opened on October 29 that year.

“The Press” of October 26 described the building as “a very substantial one, fitted and furnished throughout in the moat modern manner.” J. C. Madison was the architect, and the contractor was W. H. Bowen. White’s Commercial Hotel, which later became Warner’s Hotel, was on the present site in Cathedral square 100 years ago.
