Coin Designs

Sir, —So much criticism has been levelled at the proposed designs for new coinage when New Zealand changes to decimals, that from what I read and hear, suggestions from the public have been invited to try to find some solution. With that end in view, I have the temerity to write and suggest the following: Firstly, the kiwi must be retained: I think this is essential. The

Southern Cross is good , if the design is the Southern Cross and not just a bunch of four stars. The footballer and musterers should be discarded. My suggestions are: (1) a cabbage tree; (2) the head of a Maori chief, tattoo markings included; (3) a New Zealand iamb, not in carcass form, but as it can be seen on the farm pastures.—Yours. H. D. GREENWOOD. Amberley. February 9, 1966.

Sir, —The head of the working sheepdog on every New Zealand coin would not be tribute enough.—Yours, etc., J. HENDERSON. Wellington, Feb. 9, 1966.
