LADIES’ GOLF
Increased Interest The increasing interest shown by club members in the work of the Canterbury District Ladies’ Golf Association was a heartening aspect of last season, said the retiring president of the association, Miss L. V .Gates, in her annual report. A new match play competition for Russell Grace representatives and other promising players had been inaugurated between Canterbury and South Canterbury, said Miss, Gates. A trophy had been donated by Mrs J. Templar, of South Canterbury, and the first match resulted in a draw. The chairman of the Dominion executive, Miss E. M. B. Nutt, spoke of the success of the junior golf week which culminated in a win for New South Wales over a New Zealand junior team by five' matches to one. A new 18-hole inter-club competition will be inaugurated this year. Miss Nutt donated a trophy for the new fixture which will provide competitive golf for the minor clubs. Miss Gates did not seek reelection as president. She is succeeded by Mrs W. G. Walker (Waitikiri). The vicepresident is Mrs L. Boon (Templeton) and the secretary Miss E. Brown (Avondale). Seventy representatives from 26 of the 28 district clubs were present at the association’s ninth annual meeting.
