HUTT MAN’S DISCOVERY
South African Medal (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 9. A Lower Hutt man has found a South African war ■ medal in his garden and ■ would like to contact relai fives of the owner to hand it ■over to them. It has “1143 Ptd. D. Fitzgerald. 4th N.ZTand R.R.” inscribed on it. The medal was dug up bv Mr J. N. Beck, of 40 Connolly street. On the obverse side is an effigy of Queen Victoria and the words “Victoria Regina et Imperatrix.” On the reverse is Britannia, holding a laurel leaf out to a group of marching troops. A troopship is anchored in the harbour at the back.
