Chch. Seminar For Australians A concrete masonry seminar for Australian architects and engineers will be held tn Christchurch from February 13 to 16. Members of the group will hear addresses given by representatives of their professions in Christchurch, and visit old and new buildings and construction sites in the city. The group will comprise 21 architects and nine consulting engineers from leading firms tn Queensland, and representatives of the planning and building department of the Brisbane City Council They will be accompanied by Mr W H. Perkins, general manager of Besser Vibrapac Masonry (Queensland), Ltd., sponsors of the visit. Mr T. R. Lindsay, sales manager for Vibrapac Blocks, Ltd., host company of the seminar, said yesterday that the standard of building codes in the eastern states of Australia were being changed and the visit to Christchurch had been arranged to enable the Queensland architects and engineers to see what could be done with reinforced concrete masonry. The Australian group will be welcomed at a reception at Christchurch Airport on Sunday evening. Those attending will include the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning), Mr N. Vincent, chairman of directors of the host company, Mr K. D. Marshall, chairman of the Canterbury division, Institute of Architects, and Mr I. L. Holmes, of the Canterbury division. Institute of Engineers. On Monday the group will visit a number of buildings including the Brevet Club in Memorial avenue, the Canterbury Museum, Christ’s College. Canterbury University, the Provincial Council Chambers, the Dental Institute, Cambridge Courts. Rolleston Courts, and Millbrook flats in Carlton Mill road.

The Christchurch College hails of residence at Ham will be visited on Tuesday. Other buildings included in the day’s itinerary will be the Students’ Union building at Tlam, Russley Hotel, Shirley Lodge, the Memorial Garden Crematorium in John’s road, and the Redemptorist Fathers’ retreat house and monastery in Bower avenue.
