PILOT HURT
Crash At Strip (N.Z. Prest Association) MASTERTON, Feb. 9. A topdressing pilot employed by Fieldair, Ltd., of Masterton, was admitted to the Masterton Hospital with serious injuries after an aircraft accident near Mauriceville, 15 miles northeast of Masterton, yesterday. He is Colin Earl Thorne, of Vivian street, Masterton. The accident occurred ■bout 10.45 a.m. when Mr Thorne was operating a De Havilland Beaver on an airstrip known as Sunlay, on the property of Messrs Godfrey and Ivan Bowen and C. Waite on Dreyers Rock road. Mr Thorne suffered severe head injuries, multiple lacerations and shock. Mr Thorne’s aircraft crashed while taking off from the airstrip. The aircraft was extensively damaged.
