Air Control Staff (N.Z Press Association* AUCKLAND, Jan. 31. Civil Aviation Departmen air traffic staff worked up to 14 hours a shift handling the immense number of aircraft movements during the Auck land International Aircraft pageant The department’s staff “came through with flying colours in what has been their biggest task ever,” the organisers of the pageant said today.
Overseas military and commercial aviation chiefs said they had been greatly impressed by the efficiency with which the pageant’s complex movements had been handled by the small team of controllers.
The team of 34 spread into round-the-clock shifts has handled more than 1000 takeoffs and landings during the pageant.
On Saturday it handled 60« movements, starting at 4.35 a.m. and continuing to 1014 p.m.
